Fayez Butt – Partner
Fayez Butt represents innovative companies in all aspects of patent portfolio strategy and execution. With a computer science background and over a decade of experience in IP law at boutique and national IP firms, Fayez counsels clients on U.S. and international patent prosecution, invention harvesting, portfolio structuring, and strategic patent positioning in competitive markets. His experience includes work with venture-backed startups as well as some of the world’s largest technology companies. Fayez’s experience has focused on high-impact technology sectors including generative artificial intelligence, cloud technology, e-commerce, navigation systems, and distributed computing.
In addition, Fayez has experience with trademark prosecution and pre-litigation patent analysis. He has also served as a strategic resource for clients through secondment engagements involving direct collaboration with in-house counsel to manage patent activities and guide broader portfolio decisions.
Fayez’s leadership role at the firm includes mentoring associates and advancing firm-wide initiatives focused on responsible AI adoption in legal practice and operational efficiency. Clients and colleagues alike recognize him for his responsiveness and ability to align patent strategy with real-world business goals.
Jon Wolfsberger – Partner
Jon Wolfsberger brings deep experience in patent law and in-house IP strategy to his role as Partner at KLS. He has successfully managed patent portfolios spanning thousands of assets, including during his time as Chief Patent Counsel at Red Hat. His work spans technologies such as artificial intelligence, software, computer hardware, medical devices, and mechanical systems.
Jon advises clients on patent prosecution, freedom-to-operate analysis, litigation support, and M&A-related IP due diligence. His practical, business-focused mindset was shaped in part by a secondment at Pure Storage, where he helped build internal IP protocols and invention review systems.
Jon holds a J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Akron. He is admitted to practice in California and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
